Hey folks! My name is Macy Mae Cowart and my pronouns are she/her. You can call me Macy Mae, Macy, or Mace.
I was born and raised in East Texas with my two sisters, mom, dad, and two dogs. I attribute a lot of my creativity to my family. We did a lot of living room concerts, plays, ballets, and comedy shows growing up. I guess early exposure to theatre began with my sisters and I fighting over who would sing Popular and who would sing Think of Me in that nights production of "Phantom of the Wicked" Creating is in my blood. It was my favorite thing as a child, and its my favorite thing now.
Senior year of high school, I began making short films with my friends after school. This fun hobby quickly morphed into a passion, and I was ready to get on a professional set and start directing some of my crazy film ideas. Beyond working as a PA, I have held script supervisor positions and assisted with sound in editing rooms. There are lots of perks to being a PA though, just ask me what Dave Grohl's coffee order is! One of my favorite personal films is "Why We Protest", a short animated documentary made virtually, during quarantine, and with a group of artists from around the world. None of us knew each other and it was an incredible process of collaboration and art activism.
I am currently at Southern Methodist University studying Acting, and taking lessons for voice and dance outside of the university. I like to call this my "DIY: Musical Theatre degree." Having high quality acting training for my foundation opens door for theatre, film, television, and commercial work. Add some jazz squares and a rock ballad, and I'm perfect for your next contemporary angsty teen musical!
Keep up with me on social media. I can't promise it will be exciting, but I can promise it will be my social media! @macymcowart.
